Hine-pū-te-hue - A Journey of Enlightenment is the first presentation of a new theatre work by Tania Sharee Williams (Ngā Puhi) of Te Waka Wairua o Aotearoa and Jessica Sutherland-Latton (Kāi Tahu) of Ake Ake Theatre Company. Held safely in tikanga Māori, our kaupapa is to bring real history to light, to heal the past, present and future. Both artists have dedicated decades to the living wairua of Atua Wāhine, and acknowledge how they and our tupuna always guide us. This story explores a woman’s personal journey of love, grief and healing, embraced in the higher arc of Hine-pū-te-hue, Moth Goddess, who brings enilghtenment and empowerment through the art of the hue's music, story and peace.
The divine winged messenger, a bringer of tohu, a guide to the light from the depths of danger and despair. A conduit to myriads of colours, the natural progression, the ebbs and flows into enlightenment.
Join with us and let your heart be stirred as Māori theatre in Ōtepoti transports you. A story from knowing not, to initiating the knowing.
Our 30 minute performance will be informed by the Whare Tapere, as we hold difficult stories lightly with aroha, waiata, karakia and taonga puoro. Two shows only to be followed by kai and kōrero.
