Te Radar's Intoxicana

Comedy Theatre Storytelling

Comedic historian Te Radar takes you on a hilarious trip into New Zealand’s potent history of drugs and alcohol.

See tickets below

The Great Beer Strike of 1947, Southland’s moonshine matriarch, and the Quackery Prevention Act of 1908: following on from his hit history shows Te Radar’s Chequered Past, Eating the Dog, and Antarcticana, Te Radar presents a riotous illustrated lecture revealing the untold stories of intoxicating substances from New Zealand’s past.

Were doctors actually prescribing opium drops for kids? Why did pubs remove tables and chairs? Did 1940s New Zealand really have the highest per capita rate of heroin usage in the world, and could Blenheim really have had a chance to be the opium-growing capital of the South Pacific?

It may have once been illegal to shout someone a drink, but Te Radar will shout you a round of the most bizarre true stories you never heard at the bar. Raise a glass to the unsung heroes and heroines of our slightly wobbly past. Get under the influence of a master comic storyteller and leave on a high.

Join Te Radar as he dabbles in our tipsy history of drugs and alcohol. What he’s discovered is literally out of it.
