Te Whare o Rukutia Venue Manager role
Now that Dunedin Fringe-run venue Te Whare o Rukutia is staying open for the next 3 years thanks to generous investment from the Dunedin City Council, we have an exciting employment opportunity at the venue. We are looking for a conscientious, enthusiastic Venue Manager to manage the operation of Te Whare o Rukutia alongside the DFAT Co-Director/Creative Producer.
The Venue Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the venue, including:
- Managing enquiries and bookings
- Being responsible for in-house equipment, ensuring safe storage and use
- Supporting hirers to make the most of their Te Whare o Rukutia booking
- Operating the sound and lighting desk for hirers
- Ensuring compliance with, and documentation of, all Health and Safety requirements
- Maintaining social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram), posting regularly to promote the venue for hire and events happening in the venue
This is a fun and varied part-time role for someone keen to build relationships across the creative sector and contribute to the future of the performing arts in Ōtepoti Dunedin.
Contract Details:
24 hours per week (days and times variable, may require some evening/weekend work)
$35 per hour

Dunedin Fringe Arts Trust Seeking New Trustees
The Dunedin Fringe Arts Trust (DFAT) is seeking new volunteer Trustees to join our governance board. We're looking for people who are motivated to support an organisation with a vision of a city ignited by creativity, and a mission to provide platforms for creative expression that help nurture communities.
DFAT is the governing body for a range of creative arts programming in Ōtepoti/Dunedin, including the Dunedin Fringe Festival, Amped Music Project, New Zealand Young Writers Festival, performing arts venue Te Whare o Rukutia, and the White Box Gallery.
These are volunteer roles that require a commitment of a few hours each month to support the Trust’s kaupapa.
Key expectations include:
- Attending monthly board meetings (approximately 1–1.5 hours)
- Supporting and attending key DFAT events within our core programmes
- Participating in occasional strategic planning sessions (1–2 per year)
- Being willing to support fundraising efforts where appropriate
The Trust is looking for people with:
- Legal skills
- Financial skills (including those who may consider the Treasurer role)
- Governance or leadership experience (including those who may consider the Chair role in future)
- Mātauranga Māori knowledge and expertise
- Connections to local Pacific communities
- Lived experience of disability
- Active involvement in Ōtepoti’s creative arts sector
- Community development and fundraising experience
